BBC News - Isle of Man home could set new Manx property record

Isle of Man home could set new Manx property record

The house is 60 times more expensive than the average Manx home

An Isle of Man home valued at £15m could become the most expensive to be sold on the island, according to the director of a local estate agents.

The Santon mansion, which comes with its own aircraft hangar, is around 60 times more expensive than the current average Manx property.

Black Grace Cowley's Nick Cooper said: "The property has the potential to re-write the record books."

The average house price in north-west England is £153,000.

The property comes with six bedrooms, a library and its own lake but it is the private craft aircraft hangar which Mr Cooper believes will attract potential suitors.

'Dyson's of this world'

"We are fishing in a very small pond for potential buyers," he said.

"It is the Dyson's of this world, ultra high-net worth individuals, who travel the globe for business."
Chief pilot at the Isle of Man's Private Jet Company, Captain Anthony Corlett said the hangar is large enough to house a Global 7000 plane.

Mr Corlett said: "These planes could fly from the Isle of Man to Las Vegas or Beijing without refuelling, at close to the speed of sound. They are ultra long range business jets.

"They are built for small amounts of people to travel in ultra luxury," he added.

The property also has planning permission for a 10,000 sq/ft leisure facility to include a board room, swimming pool and accommodation for two pilots.

So far one person has viewed the property.

According to the estate agent the current highest record for a Manx property sale was a mansion in Ballabeg, which sold for £12m in 2011.
